Undergraduated Program

Undergraduate B.S. Program Highlights

The undergraduate program in the Department of Mathematics at NTNU aims to establish a solid theoretical foundation in mathematics while providing diverse, cross-disciplinary, and career-oriented pathways. We not only cultivate outstanding secondary school mathematics teachers but also guide students to integrate programming, data science, financial technology, and scientific computing, becoming agile, cross-disciplinary quantitative professionals.
• Solid Core Curriculum: Intensive 1st and 2nd-year foundational training in Calculus, Linear Algebra, Advanced Calculus, Algebra, and Probability, fostering rigorous analytical reasoning and mathematical logic.
• Forward-Looking Certificate Programs (Starting 116 Academic Year): In response to rapid developments in AI and data technology, four specialized certificate programs will be officially launched starting in the 116 academic year: the Specialization Program of Statistics and Data Science, the Specialization Program of Scientific Computing, the Specialization Program of Combinatorics Mathematics, and the Mathematical Analysis EMI Program. Integrating Python, R, and AI-assisted programming tools, these programs seamlessly connect theoretical mathematics with machine learning, big data analytics, and global bilingual competence.
• Hands-on Research & National Student Symposia: Practical project courses (e.g., ETF trading strategies, SVD image recognition, PageRank network models) and student-organized national applied math symposia prepare undergraduates to consistently win top honors at national TWSIAM competitions.
• Nation-Leading Mathematics Teacher Education: Seamlessly integrates advanced mathematics with PCK (Pedagogical Content Knowledge). Offers high-quota teacher-track selections (Phase-1 70%, Phase-2 40%) for aspiring secondary and higher-education educators.
• Scholarships & Financial Aid: Provides various undergraduate scholarships and merit awards (e.g., Alumni Association scholarships, departmental outstanding student grants, and memorial awards) to fully support students throughout their studies.
• Outstanding Career & Academic Outcomes: Undergraduate alumni demonstrate exceptional achievements, regularly gaining admission to top graduate programs worldwide and nationwide (applied math, data science, computer science, artificial intelligence) at NTU, NTHU, NYCU, or stepping into key roles in tech giants, financial sectors, and education.
• NTU System Alliance & Global Exchange: Enjoys cross-registration privileges within the NTU System (NTU/NTUST) and immediate proximity to Academia Sinica and NCTS. Offers department-level exchanges with prestigious partner universities such as Univ. of Würzburg (Germany) and INSA Rennes (France).
