In this talk, we first address the following two problems from both algebraic and visual perspectives:
(1) why the row rank and column rank of a matrix are equal; and
(2) why a three-term recursion is sufficient to generate a sequence of orthogonal polynomials.
Next, we introduce the pseudospectral method and demonstrate how to find the inverse of a penalized differentiation matrix.
